1. General Statement of Intent
Under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, BuruOps acknowledges and accepts its statutory duty to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of all its staff, contractors, clients, and visitors.
Safety is an executive priority. The Principal Leadership takes active responsibility for risk assessments, ergonomic assessments, hazard mitigation, and allocating adequate financial resources to maintain a safe working culture.
2. Laboratory & Hardware Testing Safeguards
Where engineers interact with physical testing hardware, server racks, or custom research benches, strict controls apply:
- Portable Appliance Testing (PAT): All electrical testing rigs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and compute clusters undergo certified PAT inspection annually under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protection: Grounded antistatic wrist straps, dissipative mats, and isolated testing benches are required when handling bare PCBs, cryptographic microcontrollers, or FPGA boards.
- Thermal & Airflow Management: Lab racks are equipped with automated thermal cutoff alarms and clean-agent (non-water) gas fire suppression systems to protect lives and research artifacts.
3. Remote Engineering & Display Screen Equipment (DSE)
Given our distributed engineering model, we comply with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992:
Ergonomic Workstation Audits
Engineers complete annual DSE self-assessments to ensure optimal monitor heights, lumbar support, and peripheral alignment to prevent musculoskeletal strain.
Working Time & Rest Periods
We enforce strict rest intervals under the Working Time Regulations 1998. Engineers on incident response rotations are provided mandatory stand-down rest cycles to prevent cognitive exhaustion and burnout.
4. Environmental Sustainability & Green Computing
BuruOps recognises the environmental impact of compute-intensive artificial intelligence research and cybersecurity infrastructure. We pursue an active environmental sustainability roadmap:
- Green Cloud Infrastructure: We prioritize cloud regions and availability zones powered by 100% renewable energy (such as AWS Dublin / London and GCP St. Ghislain / London).
- Carbon-Conscious Architectures: We engineer high-performance systems using compiled languages (Rust, Go) and arm64 architectures (AWS Graviton) that deliver superior throughput per watt over legacy x86 setups.
- WEEE E-Waste Compliance: Decommissioned workstations, servers, and storage media are recycled under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 (WEEE) using accredited zero-landfill UK e-waste partners with certified cryptographic asset destruction certificates.
5. Incident Reporting & Safety Officers
Any workplace incident, ergonomic injury, or safety near-miss must be logged immediately with our Safety Lead at principal@buruops.com. Serious injuries are reported to the Health and Safety Executive under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR).
